The average attention span of people is very low these days. For example, if your website doesn't load within 5 seconds, people will leave your website and go somewhere else. We wrote about this in one of our previous articles about website optimization. This goes to show that people are used to instantaneous gratification. They want things fast.

If I'm flipping through a magazine, I usually don't stop to take a look at an ad unless it grabs my attention. Even if I do stop, I won't spend much time on it. Because of this, ad agencies are forced to create enticing ads that grab your attention.

Now this next statement is totally based on my personal opinion, so feel free to disagree. I feel that a recurring theme of many ads these days is either sex, humor, or creativity. If you had to only choose three categories to label ads, those would be it. Let's face it; sex sells, humor makes people feel good, and creativity is intelligence having fun.

These three categories work, and that's why they're constantly used. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Right?
